How the account-based koe preview handles recordings, account access, billing, and its one-time trial.

Recordings and text

When you start dictation, koe records microphone audio to a temporary WAV on your Mac. When you stop, the recording is sent through koe’s Cloudflare service to the operator-selected processor: OpenAI or Microsoft Azure OpenAI. Your account identifies the current processor and requires your approval. Approval for one does not authorize the other; a different processor needs your approval before new recordings can be transcribed.

koe does not store audio files or transcript text in its service database. The selected processor’s processing and retention policies still apply. Local temporary audio is deleted after processing; crashes or forced quits may interrupt cleanup.

The app remembers the original application, accessible text field and selection when available to avoid pasting into the wrong place. Those references remain on the Mac.

The clipboard is used temporarily for automatic paste, with all readable formats backed up. A newer clipboard change supersedes restoration. If safe automatic paste is unavailable, the clipboard is left alone until you choose Copy Last Transcription.

The most recent successful transcript is retained in app memory until another successful result replaces it or koe quits. Copying or pasting into another application is subject to that application’s privacy and storage behavior.

Account access, not provider keys

koe uses email sign-in links and explicit Mac approval. Revocable account sessions are stored in macOS Keychain and expire after seven days. Server-side session and login tokens are stored as hashes.

Provider API keys stay on the server. The app has no manual connection settings. Legacy API keys from earlier versions are not read or deleted; you can remove those dormant entries yourself using Keychain Access.

The services involved

  • Cloudflare: hosts this website, account service and usage database, and processes requests for delivery and security.
  • OpenAI: receives recordings when OpenAI is the selected processor.
  • Microsoft Azure OpenAI: processes recordings on Microsoft’s Azure service when selected, under its own data policies rather than the direct OpenAI API’s policies.
  • Resend: delivers account sign-in emails.
  • Stripe: handles payments and subscription management if you choose a paid plan. A trial does not require a card.

Review OpenAI’s API data controls, Microsoft Azure OpenAI’s data policies, Cloudflare’s privacy policy, Resend’s privacy policy and Stripe’s privacy policy. Removing local audio does not delete copies held by a provider under its policies.

Trial, billing and usage records

koe stores your email, authentication references, subscription status, a Stripe customer reference when applicable, and a usage ledger containing request identifiers, durations, dates and result status. Detailed usage and webhook records older than 90 days are removed by daily cleanup.

The ten-minute trial has no expiry. Its consumed balance is stored separately and is not reset by log cleanup, subscription changes or reinstalling the app.

After account deletion, a keyed fingerprint of your verified email and the consumed trial balance are retained to prevent the same address claiming another trial. This is pseudonymous anti-abuse information, not anonymous data. Cloudflare backups may retain deleted records temporarily. Stripe may retain payment records according to its obligations.

This website

The demonstration uses prewritten text. It never records you, asks for microphone permission, submits audio to AI, or asks you for an API key. Fonts and images are served with this website. We do not add advertising, analytics scripts, tracking cookies or a mailing-list form.

Cloudflare may process ordinary request information for delivery and security. External links go to separate services with their own policies.

Your controls

  • Start and stop recording explicitly.
  • Revoke Microphone or Accessibility permission in macOS settings.
  • Withdraw audio-processing consent in your account to stop new transcriptions. This does not cancel a subscription.
  • Use Manage billing to cancel a paid subscription.
  • Sign out on your Mac or disconnect all Macs in the account page.
  • Delete your account from account controls; this cancels test subscriptions and removes the account email and sessions, subject to the retention details above.

Uninstalling the app is not subscription cancellation and may leave preferences or Keychain entries behind.
