Your account session stays in macOS Keychain. Audio passes through koe’s Cloudflare service to OpenAI or Microsoft Azure OpenAI. Your account shows the selected processor and asks for your approval. koe does not store recordings or transcripts on its server; the processor’s retention policies still apply.

Before you try it.

How will I install koe?

We’re preparing a signed, notarized Mac download and a Homebrew cask. Both will install the same app. Neither is publicly available yet. Check availability.

Do I need an OpenAI or Azure API key?

No. koe uses your koe account and handles the transcription connection. Manual provider configuration has been removed. Provider keys stay on the service, not in your app.

What happens when my free minutes run out?

New recordings pause until you choose a paid plan. You are never charged automatically. The ten-minute trial is granted once per verified account, does not renew, and does not reset when the same email signs up again.

Does it work offline?

No. Account-based dictation requires an internet connection. There is no built-in local speech model or manual local-server connection.

Why does music sound different with AirPods?

Using the AirPods microphone can switch Bluetooth to a lower-quality playback mode. You can keep AirPods as the output and select a separate microphone in macOS Sound settings.

Is the source code public?

The application and service source are private. Our Homebrew tap and release repository are public so installation won’t require repository access. No binaries have been published yet.
